Many people live by the unspoken rule that you should not mix black and brown. I’m a firm believer that this fashion law is meant to be broken. Instead of picking brown or black, why not put on an outfit that incorporates brown and black? For this outfit, black is clearly the dominant color. I think that as long as the two colors aren’t trying to compete with each other, then you can successfully pair them together. Brown and black are both neutrals after all, so it only makes sense that they would go together!

I love this outfit!!
Thank you!!
I am all about mixing brown and black (and camel, and grey, and navy)! I think it looks so chic – love your dress! (and LOVE your J Crew necklace 🙂 )
Thank you! I’ve started mixing those colors more because I don’t think it’s as bad as people make it out to be!
Lovely dress! I like how the brown that is mixed in is lighter – creates a variation of tones.

Thank you!
I used to be against the brown and black combo, but I have started finding more and more cute ways to pair the two! And my favorite print is brown and black: LEOPARD! Great post!
Thank you! Leopard is great, and I think a lot of people forget that it’s a mix of brown and black! Leopard is a great way to experiment with mixing the two colors.
Definitely a fashion rule that is meant to be broken! You did it great here:)
Thanks Cara! I didn’t mix the two for so long, but it really does go together!
Yes! Great outfit. I used to really hate brown and black together, but I realized it’s because I just didn’t like the particular ways people were wearing it. There’s a trick to pairing pieces in a balanced and contrasting way (same with navy and black), so that the brown isn’t sooo dark it is competing with black, like you said. So yes, I’ve definitely ditched my no brown/black or navy/black rules, and found awesome ways to wear them.
Thank you! Yeah, I didn’t really like it either, but I agree with you. If you wear the colors the right way it can look really good!
I love that you agree mixing black and brown is a thing because I do it all the time! I also enjoy black and navy.. . rules are meant to be broken right?

I used to feel like mixing black and brown was not to best idea but this fall I found that it was something that I did all the time. I think that “rule” may be in the past for a lot of us now 🙂 Love your dress Olivia!

Thanks Tiffany! I only recently discovered that I like these colors together! This is my natural hair color. In grade school and early high school, I got caramel highlights and they were terrible, especially with my dark eyebrows! I’m never touching color again. Thanks for stopping by!
