Windowpane Print

White Button Down Shirt & Black Skirt

I have a feeling this Madewell windowpane print skirt is going to be in constant rotation this season. I bought it a few weeks ago during a last minute shopping trip. I’m not sure I can call it a “trip” though, because I spent all my money within twenty minutes (J.Crew and Madewell get me every time) and promptly left before I convinced myself to do more damage. I thought about “just looking”  at other stores, but we all know “just looking” turns into spending an unfortunate amount of money.

Preppy Fall Outfit

I love the classic, preppy vibe this skirt gives off. I was already envisioning it with a crisp, white button-down shirt in the checkout line. For me, these are the theme colors of fall. You can never go wrong mixing neutrals, and adding a good print never hurts! When it starts to get chilly, an all-black or patterned tight will be a welcome addition to this fall uniform.

Preppy Fall Outfit

Speaking of uniforms, I went to Catholic school my entire life, so that meant twelve years of uniforms. When I graduated high school, I could not wait to go off to college and pick out cute outfits for class. That got old fast, when I realized that nobody else dressed up for class. I remember the first day of college strategically planning my outfit before class, leaving my dorm, and instantly wishing I had just worn a pair of Nike shorts and V-neck tee. Today’s outfit makes me nostalgic for the days of uniforms, and is a reminder of how easy it was to get dressed without thinking when I grew up.

LOVE this skirt, such a great buy! It looks great with your crisp white tee but I agree, you can totally dress it up a little with black tights and heels!

I love this!! The window-pane pattern takes this classic outfit into totally-chic territory. Add in that necklace and those flats – so luxe!
I also went to Catholic school so I completely understand where you are coming from! I have such a love-hate relationship with the memory, putting on a uniform was just soooo easy, but not so creative lol.

Thanks, Christy! This is easily going to become my fall uniform, which is fine with me. Looking back, uniforms were sooo easy and you could even sleep in later since you didn’t have to plan an outfit. Those were the days!

I completely understand! I grew up with a uniform too and hated it at the time. But looking back, it made school life much easier and eliminated any indecisions. I always love your Madewell and J. Crew picks. Awesome skirt!

I was a Catholic school gal too… except we weren’t allowed to wear kilts! (School officials were worried we’d make them too short, etc etc…) I always wished I got to wear a cute kilt though, so maybe I should follow your lead and just buy a “grown up” version – so cute!

Haha you definitely should get a grown up version! I had a skirt in grade school that we always rolled to make shorter. In high school though, we had thick wool skorts that were not as cute!

Cute skirt! I went to Catholic school too and I have to say, sometimes I miss the simplicity of just throwing on my skirt and polo in the morning!

Thank you, Lydia! Getting ready was so much easier back then. I cringe when I think about never doing my hair or putting on any form of makeup in the morning, though. That’s what happens when you go to an all-girls school!

I’m simply in love with your skirt! I love the pattern, it’ll be a piece that will work well with so many other items in your closet! I always wondered what it would be like to have to wear a uniform to school. It was nice being able to choose what to wear each day but I bet it was nice not to have to worry about that! You look beautiful as always Olivia!

Thank you, Jen! When I was growing up, I was not a fan of the uniform. As you get older and have less time though, you miss the extra time you got to sleep in when you didn’t have to pick out an outfit!
