Halloween Costume Idea: Morton Salt Girl

Morton Salt Girl Halloween Costume

Dressing up as the Morton Salt Girl for Halloween has been on my priority list for about three years now. I love how iconic the image is in pop culture, and her style is right up my alley. Trends come and go, but the Morton Salt Girl and her iconic yellow dress are forever!

I thought last year was finally the year I’d have my costume together, but my yellow dress actually arrived two days after Halloween. I scrambled on the day of and ended up making a super cute gum ball machine costume! Maybe next year I’ll do a tutorial on that. Needless to say, I was a little bummed last year when my yellow ASOS dress didn’t make it in time. Not only did I lose out on my Halloween costume, but it also happened to be the 100th anniversary of Morton Salt Girl logo. Just my luck. You better believe I was planning on entering all the costume contests online.

This year, my struggle was to find the perfect pair of Mary-Jane’s. I wanted to stick with the logo, and keep the shoes flat, which proved to be a struggle. Another necessity was not spending a lot of money. I decided to check out the Payless website, and found some Mary-Jane’s pretty quickly. They were on clearance for five dollars. I put a rush delivery on them, and checked an item off my list.

When the shoes arrived in the mail, they practically fell out of the box. They sounded like lead shoes, and I was confused. Well, they were actually tap shoes. Nowhere in my search did I see that they were tap shoes, but it could be that I was so excited that I found the right shoe that I didn’t read the description. I was mad until I put the shoes on and became instantly amused with the sound they produced when they made contact with the floor. Another perk? They are the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn.

I couldn’t find the exact umbrella to fit the look, but thought a bubble umbrella was the next best option. It’s fun, easy to see through, and goes with the overall theme of the Morton Salt Girl. I think she’d approve :).

Overall, I’m really pleased with how it turned out. Not only is this costume comfortable, but it’s pretty warm for this time of year! I’m so excited Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, and I already have plans to celebrate it. Do you have plans? What are you dressing up as?! Happy Halloween Weekend!
