October is a month of mixed emotions for me. In recent years, the October temperatures have been increasingly warm, which I personally love. It’s a beautiful month, and I love that the leaves are slowly starting to fall, but the greenery is still plenty lush. Where I struggle is knowing that colder days are nearing. You also get some of those smack-you-in-the-face cold days that shock your system. And yes, by “cold days,” I do mean anything below sixty degrees. That’s why I opt for colorful sweaters as the ultimate combatant against the chill.

As I’m writing this, it’s 80 degrees and sunny. Heaven. Sometimes I struggle to enjoy what we currently have because those signs that the seasons are changing are creeping up. My husband, an October baby, will have none of these intrusive thoughts I present him with.
For now, October seems to be pretty great so far. I’m seeing some temps in the 60s coming up, which I can live with. A period where I can sport my favorite sweaters without needing to bury them under a heavy coat is my dream fall scenario. Perhaps this will be the week for that.
I brought a robust sweater selection to New York City when we moved last year, but I need to do an inventory of what I actually have here. Because I was dealing with health issues in recent years, I put my love of fashion on the back burner and stuck to only sweaters that I could mentally and physically “hide” in. My style choices were sad and colorless, which unfortunately reflected the state I was in for so long. While I don’t feel 100% back to myself, I am light-years better than where I had been.

Thankfully, I actually want to have fun with fashion again! My beloved collection of colorful sweaters, which has been neglected for years, is ready to be unfolded and see daylight. I kicked off sweater season with this vibrant Sugar Lips sweater I bought from Dillard’s years ago. It’s a bit cropped, so a high-waisted jean or white button-down is perfect if you want to offset the crop.
Since cooler weather is unavoidable, I’ll stick to my colorful sweaters to keep me warm and cheerful. If you’re feeling inspired to inject some color into your fall wardrobe, here are some fun sweaters I’ve got my eye on!
