I wore this outfit during a night out with my boyfriend in Cleveland a few weekends ago. He’s never been on board with my leather obsession, although I am constantly trying to prove my point. I’ve accumulated quite the collection (shorts, skirt, pants, sweaters, tops, trench coat) of leather pieces, but none ever seem to make him change his mind. When I informed him that my leather shorts were making the trip with me, he was less than pleased. First of all, I know I’m not the only one who thinks men don’t understand fashion. Second, I think the thought of anything leather reminds him of Cat Woman, or some other scantily clad women. As I’m typing this, I also remember a few notable times this year when my dad questioned my leather-sporting ways.
When I paired my shorts with this boxy striped Madewell top, I think his level of concern went down dramatically. The key is to wear one leather piece, and make sure the rest of your outfit complements that one piece. I think once he saw this outfit put together and accessorized, he was reassured. While I still have a long way to go, I think we’re finally making progress! I do, however, think it will take a miracle to convert him (or any other male I know) to embracing my leather pants.
