As summertime winds down, it comes time to pack away the swimsuits, and start thinking about fall clothes. Although many of us are sad to bid farewell to the warm weather, there is a silver lining that will keep your spirits bright: end of summer sales! Below are tips on how to make the most out of these sales without getting overwhelmed.
1. Devise a plan before you shop. It’s good to come up with a plan before you head to your favorite stores so you have your sights set on what you need. We all tend to get blinded by the slashed prices and abundance of sale signs everywhere we turn. Having an idea of what you’re looking for before entering the sale madness will keep you focused while avoiding overspending.
2. Ask yourself if you’d wear it next summer. It’s easy to get a little too excited during these massive sales. You don’t want to get to a point where you’re buying everything in your size just because it’s on sale. Take the time to look at it and decide if it’s something you’ll still be interested in wearing next summer. Try to avoid trendy pieces, as they probably won’t be in style next year. Classic pieces that will be wearable years from now will help you get the most bang for your buck.
3. Take advantage of jewelry sales. Shopping for jewelry is much different than shopping for clothes. In most cases, jewelry doesn’t go out of style, so take advantage if you see anything you like on sale. One of the biggest jewelry trends of the last few years is layering multiple pieces, so these sales will allow you to stay on budget while staying on trend.
4. Look for clothing you can wear year round. What’s better than finding clothes on sale that you’ll want to wear next summer? Finding clothes on sale that you can wear year round! Stocking up on basics that can be easily transitioned from season to season will guarantee that you’re getting your money’s worth. Remember that basics are essentially a blank canvas when it comes to styling an outfit, so you’ll be able to mix and match as the seasons change.

SO SO true! I am such a bad sale shopper and essentially do everything you advise not to do! I am going to try and stick to this list next time 🙂
Haha I try to think my sale purchases through, but it’s definitely hard sometimes! Good luck!
Great tips Olivia! I know I’ve made end-of-season sale mistakes before with buying trendy pieces. It’s so easy to get caught up in the sales/clearances! Remembering to buy basics is key!
Thanks, Grace! I get so excited when there’s a lot of trendy pieces, but then you have to remember it might not be in style next season. Buying basics is definitely the best option!
Couldn’t agree more when it comes to jewelry! I’ve snagged some of my favorite statement pieces at end of season sales. Great tips!
Thanks! I love when jewelry goes on sale, and think it’s a good idea to snatch up your favorite pieces!
Great tips! Classic pieces are always smart purchases. Lately when I see something on sale that I’m tempted to buy, I ask myself if I would have wanted it when it was full price, and if the answer is no I pass on it. It can be really easy to go overboard with all the great sales going on. Have a nice day! 🙂
Thanks, Stephanie! I try to stick to a plan, too, because I have gone a little overboard in the past!
Great tips!! I get super overwhelmed with all these sales – so remembering to focus on mostly classic pieces is a really helpful tip!
Thanks, Christy! That happens with me too, so I try to stay within my budget now when I hit the sales!
