Katharina’s Café Konditorei

Katharina's Croissants

To say I’m a major fan of Yelp would be an understatement. Despite the fact that I don’t eat meat and have a severe nut allergy, I still love food. My family and I have always considered ourselves foodies, and sadly for me they get to enjoy food a lot more than I do when we try new restaurants. I still love the excitement of discovering something “new”, even if for me it’s just admiring the atmosphere and decor.

When I stumbled upon Katharina’s Café Konditorei in Newport during my usual Yelp browsing session, I knew I had to go. I really don’t venture over to Kentucky like I used to when I was younger. I basically lived at Newport on the Levee as a tween, but as an adult I think the Cincinnati side of the river has been booming and kept me from exploring other areas. My mom and I stopped by Katharina’s for lunch last week, and I instantly felt like I was transported to another country.

The restaurant has a heavy German influence (Konditorei is the German word for a pâtisserie and confectionery shop), but I also got some French vibes when we were there. I loved the European feel, and I honestly didn’t want to leave. It wasn’t trying too hard to be something, it was just perfect. The decor was understated and elegant, and I wanted to move in.

I actually didn’t even eat anything that day because I had just eaten a late lunch, but my mom loved her chicken salad croissant. I was so into taking pictures of the restaurant that I didn’t even think to take a picture of her meal. Whoops!

Have you ever been to Katharina’s? If you’re ever in the Cincinnati/NKY area, I suggest you check it out! You won’t be disappointed.
