My Top 5 Golden Globes Show Stoppers

I have to say, I was blown away by the Golden Globes fashion this year. I tend to be a tough critic when it comes to falling hard for a red carpet look, but there were just so many good designs to choose from! I only caught about 30 minutes of E!’s red carpet show, but everything I saw had me drooling. In the past during awards season, I’ve shared some of my favorite looks to grace the red carpet. Since this is the first major show of the year (and the fashion was insane), I thought it would be fun to share my personal favorites (also this is a good excuse for me to fantasize over these dresses for a little bit longer).

I wanted to do something a bit different from what I’ve done in the past, and share similar dresses I found as an alternative to these red carpet gowns. Sure, these haute couture looks are great, but we want to be able to make it translate to our reality. I’ve included some similar and more affordable (minus a few splurges) options below each look, and I think I found some pretty good alternatives. Happy awards season, ladies!

Golden Globes 2016 Best Dressed List

Jennifer Lopez in Giambattista Valli

This was my favorite look of the entire night. I gasped when I saw J.Lo strut down the carpet in this. She is the furthest thing from Jenny from the Block in this fitted mustard yellow gown. Not only did this color look stunning with her complexion, but the cut of the cape is something we don’t usually see her in (which made for a nice surprise). Next, let’s talk accessories. If I had to steal for the first time in my life, it can confidently say my haul would include all of J.Lo’s accessories. The necklace, the clutch and the shoes. Don’t even get me started on the shoes. I’ve seen sparkly shoes, but this took it to a whole new glistening level. Now that I’m thinking about it, not only did J.Lo have the best dress of the night, but she also killed it in the jewelry department, as well.

Olivia Wilde in Michael Kors Collection

Now onto Olivia (great name). I loved everything about her dress, but wasn’t a huge fan of her hair. For me, having a hair tie on the verge of falling out of my hair is one of the worst things in the world, so you can imagine the discomfort I felt when I saw that Olivia voluntarily chose this hairdo for the red carpet. From the front? Not so bad. But once I saw the back on TV, I couldn’t un-see it. Other than that, I thought this look was chic and sexy. I think her statement necklace was the perfect size and length to pair with this dress, and it didn’t divert from the main attraction in any way. I’d call that a successful jewelry pairing.

Brie Larson in Calvin Klein

Brie Larson is another newcomer to the red carpet game, and she absolutely crushed it in this Calvin Klein number. Gold and I have always gotten along, so it was pretty much guaranteed I’d fall in love with this one. You see sequins all the time on the red carpet, but this Calvin Klein design was refreshing and youthful. I think it was smart for her to keep her hair and jewelry simple. Let the dress do all the talking! Brie put the “gold” in The Golden Globes.

Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton

This was the first look I saw when I tuned into the red carpet coverage. Alicia Vikander is new to the game, and I think we can all agree she nailed her first big fashion moment. You know I’m a sucker for frilly details, and this Louis Vuitton gown didn’t disappoint in that department. The pleating that gave just a hint of sheer was subtly sexy. I also loved the high neck and ruffled shoulder. I would wear this in a heartbeat. Take note, LV.

Zendaya in Marchesa

I had to save one of the best for last. Zendaya in Marchesa is what dreams are made of. It might be because Marchesa has always been one of my favorite designers, but I think Zendaya’s look was one of the most gorgeous things to grace the carpet all night. I love what the ladies of Marchesa can construct out of fabric, and this was definitely true to their feminine and elegant style. The three tiered design fit her like a glove, and her curly hair complemented this dress perfectly. Plus, that color was to die for. This is the dancing red dress lady emoji brought to life (and I mean that in the best way possible).

My favorites out of your favorites were Zendaya, Alicia and J. Lo in that order. Gorgeous dresses and I think J. Lo looks amazing in that color. That’s a difficult color to pull off! Fun post Olivia!
