Little Gingham Dress

Sure, a little black dress is an essential everyone agrees you should have in your closet, but I think a case needs to be made for “little gingham dress“.

I recently got this gingham dress from Urban Outfitters (who has been crushing it lately, BTW.) and I’m so glad I did. I love anything and everything about gingham, especially because it evokes old school and feminine vibes. I know summer is winding down, but I have plans for extending the wear of this dress as it starts to get cooler.

A no-brainer would be to throw a denim jacket over the dress (or tie it around your waist to dress it down), but I’m also contemplating wearing a white button down shirt underneath. I love layering blouses with feminine dresses. I haven’t actually tested the button down with this dress yet, but my fingers are crossed that it’ll work!

Speaking of summer winding down, I am so not ready to pack away my J.McLaughlin wicker handbag. I’ve used it all summer long, and am sad about having to tuck it away until next year. Unfortunately, this is one material that really is impossible to stretch into fall and winter.

On a side note, I had a very quiet and relaxing weekend. On Saturday I ended up picnic-hopping between a real estate industry picnic and my family reunion. This August has been pretty mild and I wish it would stay this way forever. We always have grilled corn on the cob at our family reunions and this year definitely didn’t disappoint. I never used to be much of a corn eater, but once I started eating it at our reunions I was hooked! Full disclosure: I had two ears of corn at our picnic and also dabbled in some for dinner last night. I wasn’t kidding when I said I’m hooked!
