I recently had the opportunity to check out the opening of the newest exhibit at Cincinnati’s Miller Gallery: Art Couture by Stephen Wilson. I was blown away by all the works artist Stephen Wilson had created! You know I love color and fashion, and this was a beautiful, thought-provoking blend of my two loves.
Wilson utilizes a mixture of skillsets in his works, including painting, embroidering 3D printing, photography, and sculpture. Many of his pieces contain embroidery with millions of stitches. He noted that these can take hundreds of hours to create! His embroidered works were among my favorites on display at Miller Gallery.
Stephen Wilson’s Studio
Wilson’s studio is located in Charlotte, North Carolina and he hopes his art will inspire people to think about brand worship and conspicuous consumption. For example, many of his pieces feature deconstructed designer boxes, with brands including Hermes, Gucci, Chanel, and Dior.
Amy and I took advantage of the stunning artwork and decided to shoot inside the gallery. It’s also worth noting that Heather, the owner of Miller Gallery, is seriously the nicest, most welcoming person and is exactly who you’d want to encounter when visiting an art gallery!
I also wanted to let you know about a fun Girls Night Out event Miller Gallery is hosting on November 5th from 6-7:30 pm! I’ll be there and it’s the perfect chance to see the artwork and mingle with other local ladies.
The Exhibit
There’s a large variety of Stephen Wilson’s work on display. Each features different color palettes and textures. For instance, this piece below was one of my favorites. The vivid colors and detailed embroidery created a stunning piece that I couldn’t take my eyes off of!

Another memorable display featured blush, cream and brown hues. I knew I wanted to style an outfit that would complement the art, so I wore this statement-making sheer blush top with puffy sleeves. To keep it feminine I finished my look with a cream skirt and nude heels.

The next look we shot featured a vintage jacket I recently purchased at Hi-Bred, a vintage shop in Cincinnati. It’s a pink and white polka dot jacket covered in sequins from Bergdorf Goodman. It’s one of my favorite purchases I’ve ever made. We shot this outfit with a bottle of rosé and a Hunt Slonem piece as our backdrop. The colors worked perfectly!

We also incorporated a few works by Tyler Shields, who has an upcoming exhibition at Miller Gallery.

One of the most breathtaking highlights of the Stephen Wilson exhibit is the wall of embroidered butterflies. Each piece is handmade and features a one-of-a-kind design.
