How To Jazz Up a Classic Black and White Outfit

Black Pleated Pencil Skirt

When it comes to fashion, I can tend to be a chameleon, wearing classic, flashy or edgy pieces in conjunction with my go-to feminine staples. My style veers toward the feminine side. But I do have a soft spot for a leather pant or jacket, or a white fuzzy purse like you see in these pictures.

While I love wearing black and white together and think it’s a classic and iconic look, sometimes it can feel like it lacks excitement. Now that it’s starting to get colder and the days are more gloomy than sunny, I find myself not feeling as excited about my outfit choices. My mood can be so dependant on the weather, so I rely on fashion to keep my mood elevated. Since black and white isn’t always regarded as the most exciting of pairings, I started thinking of a few different ways you can add some pizzazz to this muted palette. Add Texture

Throwing some texture into your black and white outfit is a fun and unexpected way to jazz it up. I decided to wear this white faux fur handbag that I’ve actually had since I was in grade school. Yes, grade school! It’s one of those pieces I always held onto over the years because I loved it so much. Sure, it’s white, but the faux fur texture is definitely unexpected.

Since sweater weather has officially begun, I’m really making an effort to invest in some sweaters that are more elevated than the standard sweater. This Club Monaco ruffled sweater instantly makes a statement with the feminine and oversized ruffled cuffs. Ruffles are a texture I can always get on board with!

Accessorize

I didn’t go crazy with accessories for this outfit, but again my faux fur handbag was my main accessory. Whether it’s a handbag, a hat, or some statement jewelry, accessories are an easy way to make your black and white outfit stand out.

Add a Pop of Color

When all else fails, turn to color! My closet is filled with color. I always love an excuse to add some to my outfit, especially when it’s a black and white outfit. Again, this black and white outfit I styled today is more on the simple side, so I didn’t go crazy with my color, But I subtly added it in a couple places. I went with my favorite berry colored lipstick from Kat Von D; (seriously, I have this liquid lipstick in five different shades because it’s so great) and this greenish blue hue from Essie on my toes. Also, I can picture this outfit with colorful statement earrings or a bold, solid-colored pump.

Avec Les Filles Shoes

I also want to give a shout out to these Avec Les Filles suede heels that arrived in the mail last week. As I was doing my daily peruse on the Revolve website, I came across these black bow heels and fell in love. I’m always looking for a good black shoe that’s not a pump. The bows on these instantly won me over, as well as the block heel!

Unfortunately, I think these shoes are going to be restricted to indoor wear only for the foreseeable future because it seems like winter has decided to arrive early here in Cincinnati. It was pretty mild last week when I took these photos, but that’s drastically changed in recent days.

Black White Outfits for Women

I shot these pictures in front of the newly renovated Music Hall, and the property was looking flawless! I love how picturesque all the buildings in Over-the-Rhine are.

I was legit wondering how you took these bare-legged photos in Ohio. It’s so cold!!!!

That sweater is too cute. I love the ruffled sleeves.

Also, a solid pink necklace or bracelet is my favorite way to add color to a black and white outfit!
